The scientists investigating sea depths do not cease to make all new and new discoveries, surprising inhabitants with the unexpected facts. So the biggest was found today a jellyfish which sizes blow the mind.
The biggest jellyfish
The biggest jellyfish opened by scientists today is the huge Arctic jellyfish better known as "Tsianey hairy" or "A lion's mane". Length of her tentacles can reach 37 meters, it is comparable to the sizes of the ten-storied house, diameter of its dome is two and a half meters. Latin names of a jellyfish – Cyanea capillata, Cyanea arctica that in translation Sinevolosaya a jellyfish" or "The Arctic jellyfish" sounds as ".
There are two more species of this jellyfish: Cyanea lamarckii that in translation sounds as "Blue tsianeya", and Cyanea capillata nozakii – "Sea Tsianeya". However both of them concede in the sizes to "relative".
Sizes of the biggest jellyfish
On the dimensions Arctic tsianeya can easily compete with the biggest representative of ocean fauna – the Blue whale which weight can reach 180 tons, and length – about thirty meters. In 1865 near the North Atlantic coast of the USA, in Massachusetts Bay, from the sea the huge jellyfish was thrown out. Its length was 37 meters, and diameter of a dome was 2 m 29 cm. This sample is the largest of all whose sizes were officially documented.
Habitat
Arctic tsianeya chose cold and moderately cold waters of Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean. Its populations are at coast of the Australian continent, but most of all representatives of jellyfishes of this type live in basins of the Atlantic and Quiet oceans and also in waters of the Arctic, free from ice. The mild climate of the warm seas does not do well tsiany, here its populations either are absent absolutely or are not numerous.
Building and color
In a color of a body of the largest jellyfish prevail reddish and brown tone. At more adult copies of edge of a dome have red coloring, and in the top part yellowish color prevails. Jellyfishes of the smaller sizes are painted in light orange or light brown tone. Sticky tentacles of a tsianea are collected in 8 groups. Each of them contains 60-150 tentacles located ranks. By means of them the jellyfish will paralyze the victim, injecting poison into a production body. Jellyfishes prefer to hunt groups, on several individuals at once, kind of forming the tentacles huge network to which besides a small small fish plankton and a great number of invertebrates gets.
Danger to the person
The burn left to tsianey is not life-threatening though it is enough and is sensitive, allergic reactions are also possible. Painful feelings can last till 8-10 o'clock, sometimes longer.
