Friction – important property which is possessed by all objects on the earth. If there was no friction, then life on the planet for certain would develop according to some other scenario and, perhaps, in general would be present at other form. The world, habitual for all, just could not exist.

Without exaggeration it is possible to tell that friction force on an equal basis with force of universal gravitation – the major components providing a possibility of existence of mortal life in its present form.

Probably, it happened to everything to leave the house during ice. It is just that case when, thanks to a nature whim, friction strongly decreases and it is necessary to make a lot of efforts to keep standing. All know how in such cases the possibility of normal movement is restored. Topping of sidewalks is directed just to increase in friction.

Imagine the child who slides on the sledge from the hill. What happens if friction suddenly is gone? The sledge just will not stop, nothing will hinder their movement. There is no friction, people could not hold any subject in hands. The glass just would slip out your hands in the slightest attempt to take it (if at all such thing would exist), and, being put on a table, would roll down from it at the slightest push. The same can be told also about furniture – tables, chairs, cases. Terrestrial transport just could not exist as it stands as wheels of cars would turn on the place. People just could not go. It is possible to give thousands of other examples proving that disappear friction today, now this friction force, and habitual life would turn into chaos. So from what there is a friction? All objects have microscopic roughnesses, hillocks, ledges, cavities which in interaction of surfaces of objects cling the friend to the friend and create the effect called friction force. In many cases the people seek to reduce friction force. Especially often such requirement arises in the industry. Various oils and lubricants are applied to reduction of friction in moving parts of machines and mechanisms. It allows to reduce wear of details and to limit electricity consumption due to reduction of heating of the interacting surfaces. However it is completely impossible to get rid of friction and it is not necessary.
