Pretty fast opposite electric charges in a cloud concentrate in different areas: above prevail positive, and below negative, but swirling does not stop inside. Sometimes there are powerful streams when the set of positive and negative particles faces at the same time. Storm clouds are very large formations and when two powerful whirlwinds loaded opposite face, very strong electric discharge is formed. It is also a lightning. It it is dazzling sparkles, instantly heating air around itself to very high temperature so that he explodes. The thunder is and there is this explosion of the air mass heated by electric discharge. Electric discharge can have the direction or from one part of a cloud to another, or from them to the earth. If the lightning hits into the objects located on the earth, then it without effort splits even big stones, and everything that burns, from its blow ignites. The lightning is attracted to everything that towers over other landscape. Therefore to protect houses, people constructed lightning rods: these are metal poles which take away current to the earth and in such a way neutralize it. But if the thunderstorm, and you began not houses, then do not hide under high objects, for example, under trees. Because probability is high that the lightning will strike in one of them.
