The stress is characterized by mental and physical reaction of an organism to irritation or a fright. It is such protective mechanism given to the person by the nature. Short-term stressful situations can even bring benefit as force an organism to be mobilized, bring it into a tone, and here the long stress is harmful and in the development it goes through 3 stages.
3 stages of a stress in psychology
The first the assumption that the stress in the development goes through several stages was put forward by the scientist from Canada Hans Selye. He seriously and deeply studied the nature of this phenomenon and came to a conclusion that the same mental loading causes identical reaction in different people. That is whatever the irritant was, biochemical changes in bodies remain similar. On the basis of it three stages which there passes the stress, here they were also allocated:
- Alarm. At the same time adrenal glands begin to excrete special hormones – adrenaline and noradrenaline which stimulate an organism or on protection, or flight. But at the same time the immune system of the person suffers, the resilience to diseases and infections decreases, work of a digestive tract worsens. In medical practice many examples when the alarm caused ease of intestines, that is a diarrhea are described. If at this stage the organism is exempted from negative external impact, then its functions are completely restored.
- Resistance. The organism makes the decision to fight, that is on this from 3 stages of a stress there is a mobilization of its forces. At the same time physical health does not worsen, but the person can become more aggressive and excitable.
- Exhaustion. From the outside the organism manages to spend all the forces during long influence. As a result the deep depression or a nervous breakdown develops. The physical state very bad, is available various diseases which can even lead to death.
