Emotions and feelings in psychology

Society Hits: 189

Emotions and feelings are synonyms or two different concepts? Alas, even psychologists do not agree in a consensus, and we should pine for "mere mortal" in guesses, trying to give definition to the sincere darkness. So, today we undertake excessive cargo – our task to find, than feelings differ from emotions, contrary to passive psychology.

Emotions

Emotions arose feelings much earlier, they is more ancient and it is in many respects more clear. Emotions – are situational, they arise as assessment of the situation or as result of satisfaction and dissatisfaction of human wants with surrounding circumstances. That is, you want to drink and thirst. You drank a glass of water do not thirst any more. Everything depends on circumstances.

Thus, if circumstances satisfy our "inquiries", we experience positive emotions: joy, excitement, pleasure. If the environment does not give us the chance to realize the requirements, there are following emotions: disappointment, grief, fear, grief, grief.

Considering that even in psychology of emotion and feeling are indissoluble, we will continue from characteristic of feelings.

Feelings

Feelings – are secondary, they evolved from emotions during evolution. That is, feelings are the acquired emotions. Feelings do not depend on change of a situation, they can exist in us all life steadily. But, at the same time, feelings can be expressed different (cardinally different!) emotions. For example, mother loves the child and this life long feeling. The child can anger, offend, disappoint her, then she will feel anger, grief and other is a manifestation of feeling of love by means of emotions. But at the same time, mother can be proud of the child, admire, be touched, then she will experience emotions of admiration, joy, affection.

Demonstration of emotions and feelings

So, we dealt with characteristic of emotions and feelings. And now we will look how to distinguish their manifestation on surrounding people.

Emotions – are conscious, we can easily explain why we experience any given emotion. As for expression, most often they are shown in the form of gesticulations, intonations and a mimicry. But far from it. You want to study emotions – you watch children. They "are not ground" by society yet, and all their emotions are noticeable and are not hidden. And adults learned to hide the emotions and also to pretend as if they test any given types of emotions. For studying such "hidden" manifestations of emotions there was a science physiognomics.

We show feelings by means of words, but we can never explain plainly why we have any given feeling. Ask mother why she loves the child, or it is not necessary so highly why she does not love onions?
