All sometimes face a question how to make a cover for the favourite old book. There are many options. Let's consider one of them and we learn how to bind the book in house conditions.
Necessary tools
The list of tools which will be necessary for production of a cover:
- two boards and the clamp — are necessary to make a clip by means of which we will fix blocks of sheets for convenient work;
- brush for PVA glue;
- scissors;
- knife for paper trimming;
- pricker.

What is required from materials
To make a book cover with own hands, besides certain tools, a set of materials with which we will get acquainted below is required.
- Glue PVA.

Let's consider step by step how to make the book with own hands.
Qualitatively to sew the book as it is done in printing houses, it is necessary to print out the text thus: two pages on one leaf. The majority of printers allow to print in such format. The press becomes not only in a book format, but also bilateral. For this purpose it is necessary to understand features of supply of paper in the printer as in different printers this process goes differently. After printed out the text, we divide all sheets into separate blocks.
The ability to read quickly releases a heap of free time. Only present, you can cope much quicker with all literature — technical, professional or art. For this purpose it is enough to study technology of high-speed reading only.
It is important! In order that it was easy to sew, it is recommended to do blocks small, for example, on 5–6 pages.
We put the received blocks in half. It is possible to bend each leaf separately, and it is possible the whole blocks. Try to bend accurately. The line of a bend can be pressed scissors. Further we assemble the received bent blocks in the correct sequence and we clamp in a press. The press is made of two boards and is fastened with the clamp. It is necessary to clamp closely, but not to be overzealous not to rumple blocks. In about 15–20 minutes we get blocks from a press. It is necessary to prepare sheets under an insertion. For this purpose we take each separate preparation and we puncture with a pricker. In order that the book was qualitatively fastened and it was not scattered, recommended to make three couples of holes. It is also necessary to make two openings at the beginning of future back and at the end in order that it was possible to enter thread and then to hide it. It is necessary to do openings by a pricker in the block from within. So openings will accurately look on already fastened book. All openings on blocks have to be symmetric also at identical distance. We take further small pieces of a tape (for the small book there will be enough 10-12 centimeters of rather narrow tape) and we fix them at identical distance (where three couples of openings are made). It is possible to fix by means of an adhesive tape to a table or a board. These films allow to fasten blocks among themselves as thread for an insertion fastens only pages of blocks. We start an insertion. It is possible to begin both with the first pages, and since the end. The main thing in this process not to mix the page, otherwise it is necessary to start everything anew. We take the first block. We bring thread to the first opening, further thread comes out in the first opening of the first couple of openings. Now we put the tape fixed earlier to a back of the block and we bring insertion thread to the second opening of the first couple. Thus we fixed a tape in an insertion. So we make in all three couples of prepared openings. We remove thread through the last opening.

We do such insertion with all blocks. We do not forget to carry out a tape between blocks. The prepared blocks by means of thread by which they were stitched are also among themselves fastened. That is at the beginning and at the end of thread bundle between blocks. Thus, we hemmed book blocks. We fix the received design in the press and we clamp it so that the edge of the book acted. We coat with PVA glue a back. We use Clay very little. We wait until glue dries up. At this stage it is possible to prepare and paste fly-leaves for future book. After the pasted fly-leaves dried, it is possible to cut the edges of the book. For this purpose we take very sharp knife for paper cutting, we put a ruler (it is possible to put an equal board) and, using best efforts, we cut the edges. In order that the book was strong, the back is glued and impose a gauze.
That corners were strong and protected, we glue headbands. We do headbands of the roller made of cloth. We prepare a cover. For this purpose we take dense cardboard the size more book block (it is possible to make a cover with fabric — for this purpose it is necessary to paste over cardboard in advance; previously to iron fabric). For a face of the book we take a strip of thin cardboard. We put cardboard thus: big sheet of cardboard, distance of 5 mm, strip of thin cardboard, distance of 5 mm, and further sheet of dense cardboard. We glue all this design with a gauze or leaky fabric. The cover is ready.
The last stage is to gather all parts. We put the book block to a cover. We apply glue on the fly-leaf and a cover. We make the same also on the other side of a cover.
Important! Between bends of the fly-leaf it is necessary to enclose clean sheets of paper in order that glue did not spread.
We put all this design under a press. We remove in several hours and we allow glue to dry finally. The book is completely ready. Now you know how independently to make a cover for the book.
