Courtship – one of the most ancient ceremonies in Russia. The groom asks for permission to take her from parents of the bride in the wife. The ceremony occurs with the assistance of the immediate family of the groom.

1. The courtship never took place on Wednesday or on Friday. These days were considered as adverse. Odd days of month on the contrary were ideal for this event. The groom with the suite went to the house of the bride usually after sunset to avoid a malefice. On the way to the house matchmakers, as a rule, to anybody did not talk. Before knocking, touched a jamb. In the house the conversation begins to be started always from far away.
2. As the custom says, the contact of wooden objects brings success therefore the groom and his maintenance surely it was done. Often the groom did not see the bride prior to a wedding therefore if parents of the bride agreed then there was a conversation about appointment day for the bride's shows. Happened and so that matchmakers and the groom had to visit several times the house of the bride to receive the consent of her parents.
3. Now these customs became outdated. But the groom has to come to the house of the bride and ask her hands for parents and receive their blessing on marriage. The visit of matchmakers and the groom should not drag on too. If the courtship ended safely, then the parties, as a rule, agree about the announcement of an engagement and resolve issues of the forthcoming wedding.
