Marriages between people of different belief were something forbidden and unnatural at all times. But times and customs change, and such unions become more and more, that is such marriage is possible at observance of certain rules.
In age-old times many Muslim men took in a harem of women of Christian belief. It was considered as prestigious and was not punished by Muslim laws. However the woman the Muslim had no right to marry the gentile, besides, it was considered as treachery and was strictly punished, sometimes the death penalty could become punishment also. But if the Christianity allows marriage with the partner of other religion and without adoption of religion of the husband or the wife by it, then Islam and now categorically does not accept such union. And only after adoption of Islamic belief by the man the marriage is possible. The wedding has to take place only according to Muslim customs, with respect for all traditions and ceremonials.
