Most often the main styles of communication are presented authoritative, democratic and liberal by styles. However diagnostics of style space of the personality provides also other styles of interpersonal communication, for example individual which is also used in the business environment. What do they differ in and as are characterized?

Styles of business communication

Originally we will consider the styles of business communication which are most often found in literature:

Authoritative style of communication when the head individually decides what needs to be made. It is inclined to suppress completely subordinates, thinks what everything knows and is able to do, but gets rid of skilled workers more often since is rather afraid of them. Observes rigid discipline, encourages the elite.

Among advantages of this style of communication it is possible to call:

  • clearness and efficiency of management;
  • the reduced time for decision-making;
  • visible unity of administrative actions;
  • allows to cope quicker with difficulties of formation and so forth.

Carry to shortcomings of authoritative style of communication:

  • dissatisfaction with work;
  • suppression of an initiative;
  • bureaucracy of the management and so forth.

The democratic style of communication – provides that decision-making requires their discussion.

This style allows:

  • to realize the creative potential of the worker, encourages an initiative;
  • effectively uses motivation;
  • there is a satisfaction with work;
  • the favorable psychological climate, etc. is maintained.

Considering the liberal style of communication, it is possible to note one distinctive from above-mentioned feature – in it the head is a member of the group, is soft, appeasable. Workers at such style are given a self-government opportunity.

Often refer officially official style to styles of business communication that is not true as this style is more intended for the relations as within the country at the state level, and between the countries. It provides an oral and written form and excludes a possibility of double understanding. Also official style of communication is provided for the organizations of all forms of ownership, it is more than written character, for an oral form the partner style of communication is used. With its help negotiations are conducted, mutually advantageous bargains, etc. are concluded.

Except above-mentioned, it is possible to refer to styles of business communication also styles of professional communication, here it is about communication of experts of a certain area. The style of their speech communication is rich with highly specialized terms.

Styles of interpersonal communication

We listed the main styles of business communication which are used in the business environment. As for interpersonal communication, in this case the individual style of communication which also affects business qualities, for example, of the head is used. In it individual and psychological qualities of the personality because of what the unique combination of styles appears are brightly shown. Thanks to it, any of the given styles is not used in "a clean look". More often at behavior there are elements of different styles of communication. So, the democratic head can address as the liberal style, and authoritative depending on a situation. And vice versa. The individual style adds to each person the unique feature in behavior and decision-making. Thus, everyone has an opportunity to consciously create own individual style by means of which it is possible to build positive and effective communication with people around, whether it be the worker, the partner or just a friend.
