History knows very few cases when Islamic women ruled the whole empires, especially if before they were concubines in a harem. There were they rulers for various reasons, and most often their life was deprived of romanticism and love.
The government of women in east countries is called a female sultanate, and sultanesses usually carry a title Walid (mother) - mother of reigning, but still young successor. Most often such women ruled alone. In the history there is an example of a surprising female sultanate when all rulers were the European origin. They dominated over the Ottoman Empire. The best-known of them is Anastasia Lisovskaya. She is known not only in Eastern Europe, but also in Western where she used a name of Roksolan. Sang of Anastasia-Roksolana in ballets, operas, portraits, books and even in TV series for this reason her biography is known to rather wide range of people. Roksolana's life did not differ in carelessness. At first it was concubine sultan of the Ottoman Empire of Suleyman Velikolepny, then became his wife. The way to the power lay through a set of deprivations and was full of furious fight for life. It was necessary to concubines in a harem very difficult: they lacked food, they were in every possible way belittled, treated them cruelly. But Roksolana managed to avoid a sad fate of other slaves and gained trust of the sultan, and subsequently became the ruler of all empire. During various temporary periods of similar honor also some other concubines among whom Kezem-sultan, Handan-sultan, Nurbanu-sultan and others received. Thus, all these women achieved almost impossible and began to govern even in spite of the fact that did not belong to royal blood. And they managed to make it not romantic methods. If it was necessary to kill, they killed and also were at war for the country and the governor who made them the slaves. Future sultanesses could notice scanty chance to break through to a top of the power in the fate and did not stop before anything to use.
