Wars and the wrong actions of politicians sometimes have strange and unpredictable consequences. For example, they can become the reason of emergence of a new kind of a mental disorder. Quite so there was also the Vietnamese syndrome. However, this term has several values.
What means the term "Vietnamese syndrome"?
Researchers note what at definitions at the Vietnamese syndrome exists a little, depending on from what point of view to consider this phenomenon. First, in the sphere of policy of the USA the Vietnamese syndrome is a refusal of citizens to support continuation of war in Vietnam, sharp criticism by voters of political figures who initiated military operations, the requirement of ordinary Americans to stop senseless bloodshed. Secondly, in the social sphere the Vietnamese syndrome is the expression of hostility which is dug out or silent, to participants of military operations in Vietnam. Veterans were often called murderers, considered monsters in a human appearance, to them took a jaundiced view in usual peaceful life and often intentionally prevented to adapt to it. Thirdly, the social hostility and own psychological problems became the cause at the soldiers who came back from Vietnam, special version PTSR which was also called the Vietnamese syndrome. Later the same problem began to be diagnosed for those who were involved in military operations in Afghanistan, having called it the Afghan syndrome. But this, in fact, same mental disorder.
Vietnamese syndrome as version PTSR
Post-traumatic stressful frustration, or PTSR represents especially serious psychopathic condition at which the person tests attacks of uncontrollable aggression, thirst of destruction and even murder. The reasons of its emergence can be different, for example, the endured sexual violence, the sustained physical injuries which caused disability, threat of death. If participation in military operations in Vietnam was the reason, then PTSR qualify as the Vietnamese syndrome.
At the person suffering from this type of frustration in consciousness terrible pictures of what he happened to endure in the war constantly repeat. And he sees all this as well in dreadful dreams. Visions are followed by strong negative experiences, fear, a stress, depressions and thoughts of a suicide. But at the same time the person is not eager to share with people around, does not want to speak about it, tries to suppress memoirs. Therefore the negative is splashed out involuntarily and the patient just breaks. It is often compared to the cocked trigger which does not know what and when to expect from itself(himself). Plus to everything violations of somatic character quite often diagnose diseases of heart and the system of digestion for it also, for example, because of nerves.
What is the Vietnamese syndrome in the history?
In the USA the Vietnamese syndrome most often mention in connection with historical events. And in it there is nothing surprisingly, considering what wide public response the war in Vietnam not only among Americans, but around the world caused. Because of a miscalculation of the American politicians the internal war which began in 1957 lasted for long 18 years and in it many states were involved. The USA in this conflict acted allegedly as the peacekeepers supporting the South Vietnamese opposition. But, in fact, the American politicians wanted to split the country finally. However they did not manage it, and after the end of military operations Vietnam became the whole state again. Thus, the war which claimed millions of the lives was absolutely senseless.
