The modern Russian family is a cell of our society with all its shortcomings, differences from the previous generation, with features of the Russian mentality. The family is not aloof – its formation is influenced by the residence, policy, economy, morals and views of modern society. The modern family in Russia is characterized by a number of installations and examples of behavior.

1. Double standards consigned to the past. Now what is authorized to the man is authorized also to the woman. This main difference of modern family from families of our grandmothers and grandfathers. In the first post-war years the people built families in the conditions of an acute shortage of men therefore in marriage the husband could behave somehow, and the wife sought in every way not to allow marriage to break up. Now, later two generations, everything became in a different way.
2. Both spouses became more tolerant to premarital sexual experience of the half. If earlier the girl hesitated of what not the virgin marries, then now it is norm. In many couples it is accepted to tell about sexual experience with the previous partners. Respectively, the relation to adultery in many cases became more tolerant.
3. Roles of both spouses became equal: the man actively participates in education of children and in housekeeping, the woman is engaged in own business and creation of career more often. The wife easily can earn much more husband. Men do not hesitate to be in charge of housekeeping, to stay at home with children and even to go on a child care leave.
4. The relation to a civil marriage, and actually – to cohabitation became much more tolerant. Women learned to exercise the rights, even without being in a legal marriage. Besides, they do not feel economic dependence on the husband any more. Moreover, there were young mothers who are consciously raising children without husband, independently earning and in time to find time for the house.
5. The former value of some symbols of family disappeared. For example, carrying wedding rings is not considered obligatory any more. Many buy rings only for holding a wedding ceremony no more. Many other wedding attributes (a wedding, for example) began to be considered as excessive. Other example: was considered earlier that spouses have to sleep in one bed. In modern families quite often spouses sleep in different rooms, finding it is more convenient.
6. The legislation in questions of marriage and a divorce became more liberal that there was a prerequisite and the reason more tolerance of a divorce. The spouse not to be afraid to lose the family any more. Child care facilities do not tease children any more from incomplete families as many children psychologically got used to one parent.
