Eresunnsky Bridge (Denmark - Sweden)

recently the railway bridge tunnel striking with the uniqueness and connecting Copenhagen located in Denmark and Malmö, which is in Sweden was built.

Construction of Eresunnsky Bridge began in 1995, finished it in 1999. Several important cases tried to interfere with process of construction. Under the bridge, at the bottom, found 18 shells lying there from World War II. And also that fact, one of parts of a construction it was warped. Despite all this, the bridge was complete for the whole 3 months before the planned date of delivery. Construction was finished with a secular meeting of the prince of Denmark Frederik and the crown princess Victoria on the bridge, on its middle. And here officially the bridge was opened only in the middle of 2000 and at the action devoted to opening there were governors of the above-mentioned states: Margreta II and Carlo XVI Gustavo.

At the beginning of existence of the bridge, the price of journey was high as the government needed to return invested funds. For this reason the tunnel was not especially popular – the few used it. But, further, the movement became more intensively. According to analysts, the Danish population got houses in Sweden and to reach for work, to Denmark, used the bridge. Therefore for constant passengers the system of discounts which could grow up to 75% was introduced

Fare on the car in 2008 was 36.3 euros. The previous year, on statistical data, about 25 million people used the bridge: 15 it was the share of the cars which remained were passengers of the railroad.

On the bridge there are two railway tracks, and the highway with 4 strips. The size of the bridge is equal 7845 meters. Through each 140 meters in a structure of the bridge the beam leaning on support from concrete is established. Height of the bridge does not prevent vessels to pass under it, so does not break sea movement.

The channel dug especially for a bridge construction demanded descent of 20 reinforced concrete blocks. Each of which weighs on 55 thousand tons. Then these blocks were connected in one part. Through Drogden there pass 5 pipes: 2 are intended for cars, 2 for railway, and one for force majeur situations.

So why was to build such grandiose construction? Why did two states go to heavy expenses for its construction? The answer in location of the airport of Copenhagen, the ordinary bridge would become a hindrance for planes. Plus to everything, the similar design does not prevent movement of vessels through the passage Eresunn.
