city of Truskavets is very attractive and original balneological Ukrainian resort. This resort town is located at the height of 350 meters above sea level in the picturesque valley in the east of the Carpathians. The nature here extremely beautiful and picturesque – the city was stretched among the fast rivers and fine woody gentle slopes. There is Truskavets in hundred kilometers to the south from Lviv and in ninety - from the western border. With the largest cities of the Baltics, Ukraine and the CIS countries it is connected by the railroad. Between the cities of Lviv and Truskavets, share taxis, buses and electric trains ply. In the city of Lviv there is an international airport.
In the territory of Truskavets there are a lot of stocks of mineral underground waters. Today this resort is very popular as a health resort. To rest and treatment to the resort town of Truskavets annually there come more than two hundred thousand people from abroad and also from all cities of Ukraine. The first written mentions of the city of Truskavets belong to 1469. Historians still argue on how the name of the city is correct to be translated and that it means. Some of them consider that this Polish modified word which in translation is meant by strawberry. Other historians claim that the name of this resort was influenced by Lithuanian. Druska, in translation from Lithuanian, is a salt. And Prikarpatye as it is well known, historically was the most important center of salt production.
Official date of foundation of the balneological resort – 1827. This year the room for the first eight bathtubs was built here.
Still for a long time medicinal properties of waters of Truskavets were known to people, but Wojciech Ochko – the royal doctor described them for the first time in 1578. Gabriel Zhonchinsky who was the author of the textbook Natural Gistoriya published in 1721 wrote that in the city of Truskavets, as well as in many other drogobychchinsky villages, extracted oil, and peasants drank the water accompanying it to cure many diseases. The first serious developments carried out B. Haque and N. Fikhtel here – scientists from Germany. In 1805 in the small work Stanislav Stashitsa wrote that, besides salt, in Truskavets extract oil and ozokerite. By distillation from oil receive the kerosene used for lighting of streets. And all this was it at the beginning of the XIX century! For the first time the chemical analysis of mineral water under the name Naftusya was carried out in 1836 by Theodor Torosevich – the Lviv chemist, the scientist and the druggist. This scientist is better known became thanks to the invention of oil lamps.
In the same time the value of the resort town of Truskavets also increases in the Austro-Hungarian empire. Here, in 1892, the special rooms intended for inhalations by the system of Vashmouth were built. Thanks to it, the city was lifted to the level of such known European health resorts at once as Wiesbaden and Rikhengal. In Truskavets, boarding houses, country houses and hotels actively began to be under construction. In 1900 in Truskavets the monument to Adam Mickiewicz was erected. Infrastructure begins to expand, pave the bypass road, build a new balneary. In 1909 to Truskavets paved railway tracks with the small station, and in 1912 the new station grew here. At that time the city was directly connected by rail services with such cities as Berlin, Poznan, Vienna, Warsaw, Prague, Krakow and, naturally, Lviv.
In 1913 Truskavets awarded the Big gold medal for serious progress in development of resort infrastructure. Development of medical base of Truskavets is demonstrated by figures. For example, in 1923 6080 people had a rest here, and in 1927 the number of vacationers sharply increased. Then the city was visited by 12633 persons – twice more, than in last season. In 1931 in this beautiful resort 14659 people have a rest, and the season of 1933 literally struck the European public, then to restore health and to receive medical treatment in clinics of Truskavets, the city was visited by 17000 people.

All this, naturally, gave an impetus to new construction and further development of the city. Today Truskavets is twenty wonderful boarding houses, nineteen comfortable sanatoria and two improving children's camps.
