The term "thesis" came from the Greek word literally meaning "provision", "the resolution of the law". A thesis is called the philosophical, scientific or theological approval, the provision and also a part of the musical or poetic work.

This term was especially carefully studied and gained deep meaning in the second half of the 18th century. In 1769 Immanuel Kant investigated antinomy – contradictions or contrasts in human mind. The philosopher paid attention that about the world as set of life it is possible to state contradictory judgments, and they will be equally plausible. So, for example, one may say, that the world is divisible indefinitely or indivisible in general; that it is subordinated to the law of causality or is absolutely free; that the world appeared happy-go-lucky or to it there was a prime cause. Each of such judgments could be proved philosophically. Such couple consisting of a statement and its contrast, Kant called a thesis and an antithesis and claimed that it is impossible to resolve this contradiction. This thought was developed by Johann Fichte – he added to concepts "thesis" and "antithesis" one more – sintezis. The scientist defined that judgments happen three childbirth. The first are called tetichesky is a thesis which undertakes in itself, without comparison with others. In antithetic judgments carry out comparison and oppose to a thesis an antithesis. In synthetic judgment the identity between a thesis and an antithesis is looked for, and as a result sintezis becomes a new thesis – a starting point for new process of a reasoning. Later Georg Hegel was this reception of coherence and "regeneration" of theses the basis for the doctrine about the dialectic principle. In the field of scientific works the word "thesis" is treated slightly more simply, than in philosophical theories. So basic provisions of a lecture, the report, a research, etc. are called. Such theses have to be formulated briefly and capaciously. At allocation of the main ideas of the message it is important to observe a proportion between laconicism of a thesis and its semantic fullness. The text of a thesis does not include its proof, but each of similar statements has to be demonstrable (arguments are adduced in the full text of work or a performance). By drawing up theses it is necessary to pay special attention to terms and formulations. In further reasonings the author makes a start from the accurate sense expressed by any given term. In music a thesis call a certain part of a step – shock. In antique versification this term designated a verse fragment. On this site there was no rhythmic accent, and in combination with strong syllables such theses formed a work rhythm.
