Magnet – very dangerous subject. The contact with a magnet can forever spoil record on the magnetic cartridge, a tape or a computer diskette, to put a television kinescope out of commission or to damage the credit card. The metal subject, whether it be just a piece of metal, the screw-driver or any other working tool, can be magnetized. It can be in a plastic product or can be rubberized. Therefore it is better to foreknow, the subject is magnetized or not.

- Other magnet
- Lighter or gas burner
- Splinters of a ceramic tile
Instruction
1. Check whether the pin is made of iron. Bring to it a subject about which you know for sure that it is a magnet. If the pin is attracted to a magnet – it is made of iron. At the same time the pin will be magnetized, and for further operation it should be degaussed.
2. Warm up a pin in a flame of the lighter or gas burner to a red kaleniye. Cool it on air or under a water jet.
3. Put a pin on a table. Bring to it the studied subject. If the pin is attracted to a subject or to be developed after its movement – means, the subject is a magnet.
