How to define the direction of the line of induction

Knowledge Base Hits: 87

As lines of induction understand power lines of magnetic field. To obtain information on this type of matter, it is not enough to know an absolute value of induction, it is necessary to know also its direction. The direction of lines of induction can be found by means of special devices or using rules.

It is required to you

Instruction

1. Connect the direct conductor to a DC power source. If on it current flows, it is surrounded with magnetic field which power lines represent concentric circles. Define the direction of power lines, having used the rule of the right gimlet. The right gimlet is called the screw which is moving ahead at rotation to the right side (clockwise).

2. Define the direction of current in the conductor, considering that it proceeds from a positive pole of a source to negative. A rod of the screw arrange parallel to the conductor. Begin to rotate it so that the rod began to move in the direction of current. In this case the direction of rotation of the handle will show the direction of lines of induction of magnetic field.

3. Find the direction of power lines of induction of a round with current. For this purpose use the same rule of the right gimlet. The gimlet arrange so that the handle rotated in the direction of course of current. In this case the movement of a rod of the gimlet will show the direction of lines of induction. For example, if current proceeds in a round clockwise, then lines of magnetic induction will be perpendicular to the plane of a round and will go to its plane.

4. If the conductor moves in external uniform magnetic field, define its direction, using the rule of the left hand. For this purpose arrange the left hand so that four fingers showed the direction of current, and the set aside thumb, the direction of the movement of the conductor. Then lines of induction of uniform magnetic field will be included into a palm of the left hand.

5. Find the direction of lines of magnetic induction of a permanent magnet. For this purpose define where its northern and southern poles are located. Lines of magnetic induction are directed from northern to the South Pole out of a magnet and from the South Pole to northern in a permanent magnet.
