Length of a route is required to pedestrian tourists for assessment of time and stocks of food. Even going on a visit, it is desirable to determine more precisely length of a way not to fall into a state of the unexpected guest.

Instruction
1. To find length of the assumed or passed way, take the large-scale map and draw on it all route. To receive more exact results, it is better to note the passable way during the travel, but not after it. If the trip took place on the car, then it is possible to restore a trajectory on the basis of the roads marked on the map. However, if during the travel there were returns, detours or movements on country (soil) roads, then it will be pretty difficult to designate the passable way.
2. If the route nacherchen approximately or is not required the big accuracy of measurements, then it is possible to manage only compasses and a ruler. For this purpose take compasses, move apart his legs on one centimeter and "walk" them along the route marked on the map. Then increase quantity of "steps" of compasses by card scale (the number of kilometers in one centimeter) – length of a way in kilometers will turn out. Measure the last site of a route by a ruler, transfer millimeters to centimeters and also increase by card scale. Then add length of this site to length of a way measured by means of compasses.
3. If the route had to be drawn on the small-scale chart or the road was very twisting, then distance between legs of compasses choose equal 0.5 cm. In this case, when calculating length of a way, previously divide quantity of steps of compasses into two.
4. If, on the contrary, the map was large-scale (topographical) or the route was rather rectilinear (automobile or the railroad), then record distance between compasses legs to equal several centimeters. It will allow to accelerate measurements and not to be mistaken at calculation of steps of compasses. At final settlement of length of a way do not forget to increase quantity of steps by distance (number of centimeters) between compasses needles.
5. If in a route very twisting sites meet (beds of the rivers, sightseeing), then for more exact measurement of their length take a strip of thin paper. Put it on an edge and lay along all route. Then measure strip length by means of a ruler. It is desirable to combine this way of measurement of length of a way with above as it is suitable only for small sites.
6. To receive the most exact results of measurements, take the device called the curvimeter. It is a wheel and the counter of its turns. As length of a circle of a wheel and scale of the card are known, just multiply the speed, wheel perimeter (in centimeters) and scale (the number of kilometers in one centimeter). The professional curvimeter will make all calculations automatically – just report it scale and "sweep" along the route marked on the map.
