How to make a crystal

Knowledge Base Hits: 71

Crystals represent solid bodies at which the particles making them (atoms, molecules and ions) are located in a certain order, forming ordered periodic structure – a crystal lattice. To grow up a crystal in house conditions, 2-3 weeks will be required.

It is required to you

Instruction

1. Dissolve in a glass of water as the bigger amount of salt which you chose for cultivation of a crystal is possible. For this purpose pour salt into water, constantly mixing until salt ceases to be dissolved.

2. The solubility of salts considerably increases at temperature increase therefore for obtaining more saturated concentration of salt in solution, it should be warmed up. For this purpose put a glass with salt solution in a pan with warm water, for obtaining effect of a water bath. At gradual heating of mix, salt has to be dissolved completely.

3. Now pour solution in bank or a glass from thick glass, and lower kristallik the same salt, attached on a thread there. Fix a thread on a wire crossing point. This kristallik will play a role of "priming" on which he will settle salt from solution, growing up gradually in a crystal.

4. Put a glass with solution of salt to the warm place. Now it is necessary to show patience – do not move a vessel with solution from the place, do not turn and do not lift it. Even the insignificant shake-up of solution will lead to fast and unplanned crystallization in a system. In three days on a thread there will be a crystal which will gradually increase.

5. When your crystal becomes rather big, take out it from solution, get wet with a napkin, cut off an excess thread. In order that the crystal did not disappear on air and was not deformed, cover its sides with transparent colourless varnish.
