One of the famous electric devices created by the ingenious scientist Nikola Tesla at the end of the nineteenth century is the high-voltage resonant transformer (Tesla's coil). Tension of high frequency developed by the transformer potential leads several million volts to emergence in air of big and colourful electric discharges. In hundred years of existence this device acquired legends and myths. But today any can make the Tesla coil and make sure of naturalness of the effects created by it.

- - thick copper wire or copper tube;
- - the raising transformer (with 220 to ~ 1500 volts);
- - high-voltage ceramic condenser;
- - epoxy resin or varnish;
- - insulating tape or silk fabric;
- - massive electrodes for the rated sportsman;
- - aluminum foil or aluminum corrugated tube.
Instruction
1. Manufacture the secondary coil of the Tesla coil. Reel up 1-1.5 thousand rounds a thin copper wire on a framework from dielectric. The coil has to have very good isolation - both external, and mezhvitkovy. Isolation of the coil can be carried out by a covering by epoxy resin or varnish, wrappings by the silk fabric impregnated with varnish or several layers of an insulating tape. As a framework it is possible to use a plastic tube with a diameter of 5-6 centimeters. From different sides coils draw conclusions a thick wire with good isolation. One - for ensuring grounding, and another - for connection to the final rated sportsman.
2. Create primary coil of the Tesla coil. Bend a copper tube, a thick copper wire or the tire in the form of a spring with a diameter of 9-12 centimeters. Stretch ""spring"" a little. The spring from a wire has to have five-six rounds and conclusions for connection it with other parts of the device.
3. Make the rated sportsman. Fix massive metal electrodes on a support from dielectric (for example, from the thick steklotekstolit). Provide a possibility of regulation of distance between electrodes.
4. Make the Tesla coil. On a support from dielectric vertically fix primary and secondary windings. The secondary winding the lower part has to be in primary. From above on a framework of a secondary winding establish the rated sportsman in the form of a sphere or a toroid. Connect to it one end of a winding. The sphere can be made of a foil, a toroid - of an aluminum corrugated tube. Reliably ground the second end of a secondary winding. Connect the high-voltage condenser to one of conclusions of primary winding and one of contacts of the rated sportsman. Connect free contact of the rated sportsman to a free conclusion of primary winding. Conclusions of a secondary winding it is ready.
