How to prepare solutions of salts

Knowledge Base Hits: 85

Solutions of salts are applied quite widely including in life. So, nutrient medium for fertilizing of plants can be prepared by dissolution in water of chemical salts of various minerals.

It is required to you

Instruction

1. For preparation of nutritious solutions it is necessary to use soft clear water, it is desirable without impurity. Best of all the distilled water will approach. If it is difficult to prepare it, you can use rain water or carry out additional water purification by household filters.

2. Softening of hard water is made by special cartridges, tablets for softening of water are sometimes used. One more way to change hardness of water is connected with use of peat. Peat is put on a grid, placed in the container with water and left for the night. In several hours, water will be filtered so that it can be applied to watering of plants and preparation of solutions.

3. The salts necessary for preparation of solutions, it is necessary to store in the dry or dissolved look in the closed tanks. Salts of iron are recommended to be stored in the ware made of dark glass, and it is possible to dissolve them only before the use.

4. For preparation of solutions of salt it is necessary to take in certain quantities. Non-compliance with proportions will make solutions unsuitable for food of plants.

5. Preparation of solution is carried out in the following sequence. To start salt weigh in the required quantity, then separately dissolve each salt in a small amount of water. Salts of copper, zinc and manganese can be dissolved together.

6. The next stage – to mix the prepared salts and to add to them a necessary amount of water, considering at the same time already used water. In other words, if you expect to prepare 3 l of nutritious solution and on dissolution of salts at you 0.5 l left, then it is necessary to add to you 2.5 pure l.

7. For weighing of shares of gram you, certainly, will need pharmaceutical scales. Household measuring appliances give very big error and cannot be used in such thin business.

8. In the absence of pharmaceutical scales it is recommended to use such reception: to dissolve a large amount of the salt which is required in small quantity, in the smaller volume of water. So, if 0.2 g of sulfate of iron on 5 l of water are required, then it is necessary to dissolve 2 g in 0.5 l. At the same time concentration of solution in 0.5% will turn out. Then it is necessary to measure only a graduated cylinder 100 cubic centimeters which contain 0.2 g of salt.

9. Other way is to prepare the concentrated nutritious solution for the future. Weigh such amount of salt which is necessary for obtaining bigger amount of solution. Calculation is as follows: from 1.5 to 2.5 g of salts have to fall on 1 liter of water. Dissolve the weighed salt in 1 l of water and fill in in a bottle. If solution is required, it can be prepared from a concentrate now, considering at the same time the amount of water used for it. Consider that the concentrated solution should not be stored long.

10. Having prepared nutritious solution, determine its acidity by the indicator. Such indicator can be bought in the shops trading in chemical medicines. It is several strips of litmus paper and a scale. It is necessary to define acidity, comparing color of the litmus paper lowered in solution to a scale. The normal acidity is ranging from 5 up to 6.8.

11. The prepared nutritious salt solution should be brought to room temperature. In winter time it is better to use the solution brought to temperature which is 2-3 degrees higher than temperature indoors where there are plants. Too cold solution causes shock in plants.
