How to transfer cubes to squares

Knowledge Base Hits: 74

During the work with results of measurements often it is necessary to transfer them from one system of measurement to another. As a rule, it is the uniform units differing only in a multiplier, for example, meters and centimeters. However sometimes it is required to transfer pretty not similar units, for example, liters to kilograms or cubes in squares.

It is required to you

Instruction

1. To transfer cubes to squares, it is necessary to know thickness (height) of those materials or objects for which a transfer is made. As a rule, such transfer should be made for construction materials which are measured both in cubic meters, and in square. For transfer of cubes to squares just divide quantity of cubes into thickness measured in meters. If thickness of material is given in centimeters (millimeters, decimeters), then previously transfer it to meters.

2. Let, for example, delivered 10 cubic meters (cubes) of boards 2 centimeters thick to building. It is necessary to calculate: how many square meters of floors can be laid these boards. For the solution of a similar task at first transfer thickness of boards from centimeters to meters. For this purpose divide the number of centimeters into 100. In our case: 2 / 100 = 0.02 (meters). Now divide the volume of boards into their thickness (in meters): 10 / 0.02 = 500 square meters (squares).

3. If it is required to transfer a room cubic capacity to squares, then divide the volume of the placement on the height of ceilings expressed in meters. So, for example, if the volume of a warehouse is 3000 cubes (cubic meters), and its height – 3 meters, then quantity of squares will be (area): 3000 / 3 = 1000 square meters.

4. To transfer to squares not cubic meters, but cubic centimeters (millimeters, decimeters, kilometers, etc.), divide the set volume into thickness (height) of a subject which is written down in the corresponding linear unit of measure. As a result the quantity of squares expressed in the corresponding "square" unit of measure will turn out. So, for example, for centimeters of cubic (cm³) it will be centimeters square (cm²), for millimeters of cubic (mm³) – millimeters square (mm²), and for cubic kilometers (km³) – kilometers square (km²), respectively.
