Modern researchers try to solve a set of mysteries of history. Mysterious artifacts, the forgotten cities, the encrypted letters, sculptures of unclear appointment – only a small part of all variety of historical secrets.
Not all data on history of great ancient civilizations reached our days. Those documents and certificates which managed to be found and deciphered so far are not always capable to give irrefragable answers on many intriguing questions. Nevertheless, professional researchers and just fans of riddles constantly make new hypotheses, trying to explain the most known mysteries of history.
Where the continent was gone?
Described by a great number of Ancient Greek authors, Atlantis already more than two thousand years remains the most inexplicable and intriguing secret. The whole continent, and together with it and a supercivilization which, on legends, reached the amazing level of development just left under water. According to Platon, Atlantis was located to the south of Gibraltar, other researchers consider that it could be in other areas of the Atlantic Ocean and even in the Black Sea, however thorough search meanwhile did not bring results.
Incarnate evil
Much later, but from it not less mysterious riddle is Jack the Ripper identity – the maniac terrorizing London at the end of the 19th century. In 1888 for several months in London in especially cruel way five women of easy virtue were killed, and the nature of murders gave the grounds to consider that they were made by one person. An additional rush of this story gave the letters sent by the murderer (presumably) to Scotland Yard. More than hundred twenty years historians and detectives try to identify the cruel murderer, but Jack the Ripper identity still remains a riddle.
Among candidates for Jack the Ripper role members of the ruling royal family and also the author of "Alice in Wonderland" Lewis Carroll were called.
Why it is constructed?
Unlike the disappeared civilizations or mysterious persons, the following mysteries of history are quite material. To them regularly conduct tours, they are available to a public inspection, but at the same time nobody can answer that they represent. And first of all the Egyptian Sphinx – the statue representing a mythical animal with a body of a lion and the head of the person belongs to such objects. Not clearly both purpose of a sculpture, and its age: rather long time was considered that the Sphinx was created approximately in 2500 BC, however modern researches claim that the statue is much more senior. Stonehenge constructed about five thousand years ago in the territory of Britain is a sculptural heap of huge boulders, - too represents a popular riddle. Considering age of a construction, absolutely not clearly as multiton stones were delivered from a stone quarry which is located for four hundred kilometers from Stonehenge. Besides, still there is no answer to a question: why this building was created? Assume that this burial, observatory, the temple or traces of activity of aliens, but there is no exact answer yet. On the plateau of Nazca in Peru there are huge drawings geoglyphs which can be considered distinctly only from big height. The plateau has the sizes of 50 by 6 kilometers, and today on it about thirty drawings, the biggest of which in length has nearly two hundred meters, are found.
Some scientists assume that drawings on the Nazca plateau represent record of astronomical observations though computer modeling refutes this theory.
All drawings are executed with an ideal clearness, their age is estimated approximately in 900 years. Not only the technology of their creation, but also appointment remain a riddle.
