It is impossible to call water resources of Moldova the rich. Osadkov drops out a little here. All water surface of the country occupies no more than a percent of its space. For the densely populated country the problem of search of new sources of water resources connects to an exit problem to the Black Sea.

Geographical location of Moldova

This country, small by the sizes, is located in the southeast of Europe. In the east Moldova has border with Ukraine, from the West Romania adjoins to it. The state was placed to Entre Rios of Dniester and the Prut. Moldova has no direct outlet to the sea now. The area of the state is almost 34 thousand sq.km.

Country relief quite difficult: it is the hilly plain which is cut by valleys of the rivers. Average height above sea level is about one hundred and fifty meters. The maximum height – is slightly higher than 400 meters (Mount Balaneshty). Moldova can brag of fields of plaster, limestone, sand, gravel. There are in the territory of the republic not too solid fields of gas and oil.

The proximity of the sea in many respects defines climate of Moldova: here soft winter, long and hot summer. During observations the maximum temperature exceeded 42 degrees Celsius once. The average annual amount of precipitation usually does not exceed 500 mm.

The territory of the country includes quite narrow strip on the left coast of Dniester in its lower and average current (so-called Transnistria). But lost the actual control over this territory Moldova in the 90th years of the past century. The country gravitated to the Black Sea and the regions adjoining to it at all times. To some extent the exit problem to the sea coast is removed by existence of an exit to the Danube River.

Outlet to the sea for Moldova

In March, 2009 on the basis of the port Dzhyurdzhyulesht complex the country's first seaport was open. The line to Istanbul on which the Princess Elena passenger ship set off became the first sea route.

Thus, Moldova across the Danube River gained an access to sea open spaces and can establish through traffic to all coastal countries of the Black Sea region. Opening of new port at once changed image of the country on the international scene and its geopolitical status. Now Moldova with reservations can be considered the sea power.

At the same time the leaders of the republic developed the plan for creation and maintenance in working order of the automobile highway which will connect new sea gate with other regions of the country.

Works on construction of a port complex were begun in 2005. The project was created with assistance of investors from Azerbaijan and Belgium. In the territory of a complex the oil terminal, costs of which construction exceeded 30 million dollars, is constructed. Also construction of trade and grain terminals is provided.
