Watermelon: landing and leaving

Watermelon: landing and leaving

In midland watermelons grow up in greenhouses or in the open ground under film. In the first case they are vertically tied up that improves quality of fruits - they become more sweet. At the same time watermelons suspend in grid, otherwise the fruit stem will not sustain loading and will break.

Cultivation of seedling

Seeds of watermelon sow at the end of April, and plant seedling in soil in 25-30 days after that. Soil mix is made of peat, the wood earth and humus with addition of superphosphate and wood ashes. Place 1-2 sunflower seeds which then cover with film in each container.

The first 2-3 days after crops it is necessary to maintain air temperature at the level of +20-23 °C. When there are shoots it lower up to +15-18 °C. Seedling of watermelon needs good intensive lighting therefore it is the best of all to put containers on the lightest window or to provide additional illumination with lamps.

Water seedlings moderately and infrequently, using only warm water. It is necessary to remember that the excess soil moisture can cause disease and death of plant. After emergence of the first present sheet do fertilizing by infusion of bird's dung with superphosphate addition. The second time of fertilizer is brought before disembarkation in soil, approximately in 1.5-2 weeks after the first fertilizing. For this purpose prepare solution at the rate of 1.5 g of chloride of potassium, 1 g of ammonium nitrate and 2 g of superphosphate on 1 l of water. Spend about 250 ml of solution for each plant.

Landing and leaving

Seedling of watermelon is planted in soil in the second half of May. The site has to be reliably protected from the North and the northeast, it is important to cover plant from cold winds. It is better to use soils sandy or sandy, saturated with organic matters. The rehumidified, heavy and clayey grounds are of little use for cultivation of watermelon. In 7-10 days prior to landing begin to prepare the site: dig out trench depth and about 30-40 cm wide, stack manure layer on bottom then it is filled up with the soil. That soil has got warm, it can be covered with black film. Place arches on which pull transparent polyethylene film. Before landing it is necessary it is abundant to water seedling and to prorykhlit the soil on the site. In the greenhouse of plant place at distance 30-40 cm from each other, leaving 60-70 cm between ranks. If watermelon is landed to the open ground, between plants there have to be not less than 2 m. It is the best of all to plant seedling in the second half of day. If weather costs too hot, it needs to be pritenit paper. The root neck cannot be buried when landing. Holes it is abundant water then moisten top soil. In the open ground the film is lowered on arches and powder its edges with the earth. The greenhouse is densely closed, it creates optimum microclimate for watermelon and will allow seedling to take root. After this plant it is necessary to water every other day, spending 0.5 l of water a day. Waterings carry out to hot weather more often. The greenhouse should be aired regularly as because of the accumulated condensate the fruits can decay.
