Cannes – unusually beautiful perennial plants, with the flowers shaking by variety of coloring. They are not whimsical and, despite the tropical origin, perfectly grow in midland. But frosts for them are pernicious therefore for the winter Cannes in average and northern areas needs to be dug out.
Cannes begins to blossom in July and continues blossoming to the frosts. Height of peduncles, depending on grade, from 50 to 150 cm. There are several ways of preservation of Cannes in the winter. One of them – storage in cellar. The dried-up rhizomes are put in wooden boxes, poured the peat mixed in equal parts with sawdust and sand. The soil moisture has to be not higher than 60%, and storage temperature for Cannes has to be not above +8os. Time in month of rhizome is taken from soil and looked round. If they dry, soil is moistened (the humidity is carried to 50-60% again), the decayed sites are cut off to healthy fabric. Places of cuts are powdered with cinnamon or wood charcoal. Temperature should not fall to storage below +5os and rise above +8os. It is possible to keep Cannes in pot, having provided them dormant period. For this purpose the stalk does not need to be cut off, it is necessary to remove peduncles and dry leaves only. Further the plant with earth lump is dug out and changes in spacious pot. The pot is established on verandah or the closed balcony that temperature was within +12 … 15 wasps. Once a month the earth in pot needs to be watered. Under such circumstances storages flower kidneys well grow ripe, and Cannes gives strong peduncles the next year. In the spring waterings do to thicket, and in two weeks prior to disembarkation in soil (in May), plant feed up complex of fertilizers. There is also the third way of winter storage of Cannes – with blossoming preservation. It is necessary to cut off in this case nothing. Without waiting for frosts, Cannes is dug out and land in big container. They continue to be watered, fed up monthly and established on the solar place, near window or balcony door. In these conditions Cannes can blossom till January. Then the dormant period during which dries and falls down stalk with leaves follows short (about two months) and new leaves begin to grow. For such storage technique the main factors are regular fertilizing, frequent waterings and spacious pot.
