How to measure inductance

To measure inductance of the coil, use the ampermeter, the voltmeter and chastotometr (in case the frequency of a source of alternating current is not known), then take readings and calculate inductance. In a case with the solenoid (coil which length is much more its diameter), for determination of inductance it is necessary to measure the solenoid length, the area of its cross section and quantity of rounds of the conductor.

1. Measurement of inductance by a voltmeter ampermeter method. To find inductance of the conductor this method, use a source of alternating current with the known frequency. If frequency is not known, then measure its chastotometry, having attached it to a source. Attach the coil which inductance is measured to a current source. After that consistently turn on the ampermeter in a chain, and by the ends of the coil in parallel - the voltmeter. Having passed current via the coil, take readings of devices. According to the current in amperesand tensionof in volts.

2. According to these data calculate value of inductance of the coil. For this purpose divide value of tension consistently into 2, number 3.14, values of frequency of current and current. The value of inductance for this coil in Henry (Gn) will be result. Important remark: attach the coil only to a source of alternating current. Active resistance of the conductor used in the coil has to be negligible.

3. Measurement of inductance of the solenoid. For measurement of inductance of the solenoid take a ruler or other tool for determination of lengths and distances, and determine length and diameter of the solenoid in meters. After that count quantity of its rounds.

4. Then find inductance of the solenoid. For this purpose, build quantity of its rounds in the second degree, increase the received result at 3:14, diameter in the second degree and divide result into 4. Divide the received number into length of the solenoid and increase by 0.0000012566 (1.2566*10-6). It will also be value of inductance of the solenoid.

5. If there is such opportunity, for determination of inductance of this conductor use the special device. The scheme called the bridge of alternating current is its cornerstone.
