How to transfer to a vector

Process of conversion of images from a raster form in vector is called vectorization. It is possible to carry out it both manually, and automatically, by means of computer programs.

Instruction

1. For manual vectorization of the raster image use any vector graphic editor. The drawing which you wish to make vector arrange on the background. As to make it, depends on what you use the editor. For example, the Depth parameter - depth for this purpose serves in the Xfig system. It can change from 0 to 100, and is by default equal to 50. Include the Update mode, choose an object with the raster drawing inserted by you, and appropriate it the most deep water - 100. Having passed into the mode of drawing of any given geometrical figures, again include depth 50.

2. Using straight lines, circles, arches, splines and other geometrical figures, accurately circle contours of the raster image. Having made sure that all its lines are circled, remove this object. After that keep result of vectorization in a native format of the graphic editor used by you. It is useful to carry out also periodically preservation and in the course of work on the drawing not to lose data in case of lag or failure of the program and also power supply shutdown.

3. If further it is planned to use the vector file not only in that program where its creation was carried out, use one of the formats intended for exchange of it of files between the software of various producers. It can be, for example, the PS, EPS, EMF, DXF, SVG format. For obtaining the file in such format use the export function which is built in practically in each vector graphic editor. For some editors, for example, Qcad, the DXF format is native - then in other programs it is not necessary to make any additional actions for transformation of files for use.

4. Automatic vectorization of images is less exact, than manual, but allows to carry out transformation much quicker. Regardless of which you use OS, it is possible to transform the raster image to vector through online service Autotracer. To use, pass on the first of the references given below, press the Browse button, choose the raster graphic file with a capacity no more than one megabyte, press "Ok", choose a format (SVG, EPS, PDF, FIG, DXF), and then press the Send file button. After completion of processing download the file with its result. Consider that broken download resume after a pause is not supported by the server.

5. It is possible to carry out automatic vectorization and by local car. For this purpose use the console utility with the similar name - Autotrace. It is cross-platform. For downloading of this program pass to its official site on the second of the references given below. Choose the version of a package intended for your OS. The reference on keys of a command line is located in archive with the program in the README file.
