What is entomology

What is entomology

Erudite entomologists study insects, and in biology quite extensive section is allocated for this science. When and where fundamentals of entomology arose, it is difficult to tell, the person to insects had an interest always, since the most ancient times.

History of emergence of science of entomology

It is considered to be that interest in insects arose since then when the person began to master cattle breeding and agriculture. In the ancient manuscripts of the Assyrian and Egyptian origin dated in the 3rd millennium B.C. records about devastating raids of a locust are found, and Ancient Chinese sources of the same time tell about a technique of cultivation of a silkworm and various ways of fight against garden wreckers. That is already in those days special attention was paid to insects.

In the 4th century BC the summary table of bloodless animals, was already made of group of an entom which author was an Ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle. But emergence of entomology and recognition by its scientific current it is considered to be the 17th century when works of the Dutch, Italian and English scientists on classification, anatomy and development of insects were published.

Fundamentals of entomology

On a question of what is entomology there is a simple answer - it is science about emergence, development and value of insects in human life and the planet nature.

Within the last 400 years the scientists did huge work on systematization of species of insects, features of their reproduction and evolving, ways and methods of increase in number of useful individuals and destructions of harmful types. But without studying fundamentals of entomology the development of this science is impossible further. Being one of the most extensive sections of zoology, the entomology itself also is subdivided on slightly so-called under - sciences, special sections. The ethnofauna systematizes already existing and studies new species of insects, annually there are unknown and not qualified individuals. The morphology and physiology are sections in which researches are directed to the structure of an organism of insects, their features and types of functioning. The biochemistry studies behavior of insects, their ways of communication and information transfer, and an entemogeografiya – the fields of their accommodation, density of populations and the principles of distribution. In entomology also the paleentomologiya – the section studying fossil remains of ancient insects is of great importance. Results of similar researches have huge value both in historical, and in zoological, and in the medical plan.

Practical application of entomology in human life

The science entomology helps mankind not only with development of ways of fight against insects as many inhabitants mistakenly consider. Thanks to researches of erudite entomologists the language of bees was learned, for example, what of insects carry dangerous diseases and what help the person to cope with them was established. Studying habits and physiological features of individuals, harmful to the person, allow to increase efficiency of fight against them, to reduce their population, without doing harm to the environment.
