The carp is rather interesting fish for study. It is known that infertile individuals occur among this species of fishes, cases of detection of hermaphroditic carps which had signs and a male and females are frequent. However, if the carp reached puberty, a male it or a female can be distinguished on some signs.

1. It is almost impossible to define a sex at a carp not mature. At achievement of puberty it is possible to notice that males lag behind females in growth, almost half. Their body which was more extended and thin. When the carp spawns, on a nape, cheeks, branchiate covers and front fins at males it is possible to notice whitish warts. This peculiar natural ornament during spawning.
2. In packs cyprinid the quantity of males over females always prevails twice if it is no more. It happens because of the special structure of caviar at all species of cyprinid fishes. There are also other differences of males of carps from females. Look narrowly at individuals of these fishes in spawning. At females of a carp the sexual opening will be obvious more. It is chubbier, than at males, with the expressed red shade. A belly at females increased, soft. 3. Chest (lobbies) fins of a male sharper in comparison with fins of a female, rounded off and smaller by the size. If to touch a finger branchiate covers of fish, then males will have them rough as if an emery paper. At the self-check they smooth, covered with slime.
4. Males and females of a carp have various anus. At males it is extended from the head towards a tail and represents a triangular fold. At females it ovate-extended. The calves at a female of a carp when pressing is not excreted for a paunch, as at many other individuals of fishes until it ripens.
5. Both representatives of family cyprinid, both a male and a female, distinguish the thick body moderately long with large scales which densely sit on skin. The head of carps big, lips large, are well developed. The upper lip is supplied in couple of short short moustaches. A fin on a back a long, anal fin always short. A side at fishes of golden coloring, a back dark. But coloring of a carp, depending on where fish lives, can change a little - to be more dark or on the contrary, light.
