1. Estimate space which will be occupied by an animal. If the place in the apartment is not enough, then the big animal, for example a large dog, will be obvious out of place. The cage with a parrot or a small aquarium will take all the same a certain place. Even one guinea pig demands not less than 1 sq.m of the free area. This individual place should not coincide with someone's bedroom or kitchen because many pets make sounds and exhale the smells incompatible with good rest or food.
2. Consider age of the child. It is better to bring the pet to the kid after 5 years. Only to the advanced preschool age the child begins to understand how it is possible to treat living beings not to do them harm. Or on the contrary, that the animal did not cause damage to it. Besides during this period the kid is already capable not only to serve himself, but also to begin to care for others. At the age of 5-6 years the preschool child is accustomed to work and independence. As a result he will go to school more responsible, than age-mates who have no pets.
3. To choose a pet to the child, ask his desire. Only for a start explain to him that each pet will demand personal care, certain material expenses. Daily living being should find the time, despite fatigue or lack of mood. Tell the kid that animal is not toys - today played, and tomorrow threw out. These are full members of family. Each owner is responsible for that being who he tamed. Attract the child to family council and together come to crucial decision. The animal should not become for the child a whim, and to other family member a burden.
4. There are animals who are recommended especially for owners with children. For example, the rat and a hamster are considered as very unpretentious animals in the sense that if to forget to feed them, they will not feel hungry. The first because in general it is adapted long time to do without food and water. And the second does stocks which last for several days. A rat – the clever and tender animal capable to become attached to the owner. The hamster responds to caress too, but is not too tamed. From cages the specific smell will proceed anyway even if to remove them every day. The guinea pig is similar to these two rodents too, however lives longer them.
5. Reckon with specific features of the child. Scientists found out that birds, especially parrots, are useful to development of the children suffering from violations of the speech. Talking to birds, the child learns to say difficult letters quicker. Birdies are quite unpretentious too. But from them there is more to noise. And began to smell the same, as from rodents. It is also established that small fishes possess the calming impact on nervous system. Therefore for the excitable and hyperactive kid the observation of smooth movements of small fishes will bring only benefit.
6. Rabbits will be very interesting to children for the reason that are able to play. But they demand to themselves thorough leaving. Them they should bathe, comb, cut claws. Therefore teenagers who are already capable to transfer all difficulties of similar leaving should get them only. Also cats are recommended to children. They are clever, playful, tender, become attached to owners, but more independent. All cat breeds, except the Siamese approach. As it is noticed that their distinctive feature is the vindictiveness.
7. For development of the general motility of the child it is worth getting a dog. The movement is useful for both bright, and sluggish children. The mobility and playfulness of a dog will not allow the child to miss. Only choose from the list of the kindest dogs who well get on with children. These are Labradors retrievers, a collie, poodles, pugs, the American spitz-dogs, dalmatians, St. Bernards, bulldogs, German shepherds, bull terriers. It is impossible to get decorative tiny doggies and combative dogs at all. The first are very difficult in leaving, the second can show aggression.
