Owners who got a kitten for the first time often are surprised to changes in appearance of the pet. It seems quite recently eyes were bright blue, and now here change on truly cat's green or amber. Actually, this phenomenon quite explainable and clear.
The fact is that color of a cat's eye as, however, and eyes human, depends on quantity of the painting pigment in a front and back part of an eyeball. And, as well as at most of human babies, an eye of newborn kittens gray or gray-blue. If at the child of an eye change color only by 6-8 months, then eyes of a kitten will become green or will turn yellow in several weeks. All this occurs because newborns have some melanin, and later it begins to collect in an iris.
But at cats the situation with color of eyes is a little differently, than at people. At some breeds color of eyes is linked to a wool color. For example, at Siamese cats of an eye, as a rule, blue, and at the British — amber. The problem is that, unlike a wool color to operate color of eyes at kittens at cultivation very difficult, and the "correct" shades of eyes are very much appreciated by fans of breeds. What occurs in an eye when color begins to change? When the kitten is at a germ stage, it has about 30 pigmentary centers. However by the time of the kitten birth the pigment already settled in wool finally, and here in eyes continues to collect. Saturation of blue color of eyes at a kitten depends on quantity of pigmentary granules in an eye retina. All colors, except blue, are dominating, so, with age eyes of kittens can only pass from blue into some other, but never — in blue if eyes not blue in principle. As well as among people, among cats there are albinos — cats with red eyes (sometimes only with one red eye). At albinos the pigment in a retina completely is absent therefore under a retina blood vessels are accurately visible. At such cats color of eyes will never exchange too. Some scientists consider that the shade of eyes is somehow connected with a food allowance of cats, however that does not have direct proofs.
