It is not as simple to keep secrets as it seems. Very often people accidentally share someone else's secretion because sometimes it is just impossible to keep from gossips about mutual friends. Not to give others secrets, it is necessary to have big will power.
How to keep others secrets
If you do not find in yourself this quality, but at the same time keep others secret which very much wants to share at least with close friends, for a start think why you were asked to store any given information from all others. Perhaps, this secret can confuse someone or offend. As soon as you have a desire to share with somebody the available information, present possible negative consequences. Always you remember that the person who entrusted the secret relied on you, it means that disclosure of its secret will make you the traitor. And even if he never learns that a secret was revealed by you, think how you will feel in this case.
It is very important to understand whether the secret stored by you has "limitation period". It is the best of all to specify it when trust you valuable information. In certain cases the secret has to remain that only to a certain term. Usually it is even more difficult to keep such secrets, than what have no temporary restrictions.
Many people give others secrets, using the words "Only Tell Nobody It...", however it is important to understand that only that person who knows nothing at all can tell nothing. The person to whom you tell secret information, preceding it by a similar design, will not be ashamed to transfer a secret further, using it. Especially, if the person whose secret you told him, is not to him a close friend.
Control yourself and a situation
Never hint anybody that you know some secret. Avoid any provocative statements. If somebody becomes interested in information which is available for you, then this person will use the best efforts to extend it from you. The human curiosity does not know barriers. If someone begins to discuss at you things which indirectly belong to a secret known to you, try to direct the course of a conversation in other direction. You should not do it too deliberately or obviously as the similar behavior always looks suspicious. Not to give an important secret, sometimes it is necessary to lie. It is worth resorting to an outright lie as a last resort, it often complicates a situation and leads to serious problems. Consider that it is better to lie, than to keep silent, but it is better to laugh the matter off, than to lie. If you cannot cope with desire to reveal a secret known to you though to somebody, share it with a pet. It will tell nothing to nobody (if it is, of course, not extremely clever parrot), at the same time it will become much more slight for you.
