How to define humidity in the apartment

The humidity is quantity of water vapor in air. Air humidity in the apartment can make from 65 to 90% depending on climate, season and weather. It is very important to be able to define air humidity as it influences human health. For the correct cultivation of houseplants it is also necessary to know humidity in the apartment.

It is required to you

  • - hygrometer;
  • - psychrometer;
  • - thermometer;
  • - pile with water;
  • - damp fabric.

Instruction

1. It is possible to determine humidity indoors by special devices. The main devices for measurement of humidity are the hygrometer and the psychrometer. Hygrometers are based on process of influence of humidity on matters, for example, the film hygrometer has special organic film which is sensitive to moisture. There are also condensation, ceramic, electrolytic also other types of hygrometers. Buy the suitable device in specialized shop, and you will be able always to know air humidity in your apartment. Psychrometers are based on temperature difference of two sensors – dry and damp.

2. If you have no such device and you do not want to buy it, it is possible to learn air humidity in the apartment in other ways. Gather in pile water from under the crane, put it at several o'clock in the fridge. Water has to cool down up to the temperature of 3-5 degrees (it is average temperature in any refrigeration chamber). Put pile with water to the room where you want to learn humidity, but do not put close to heating appliances. Observe the surface of glass within five minutes. If pile walls at first have misted over, and in five minutes have dried, then indoor air dry. If walls in five minutes and remained damp, indoor air of average humidity. If on the surface of glass there were water streamlets, the high humidity means in the room.

3. It is possible to measure humidity in the room in faster way, but so you can learn only relative humidity. For this purpose take in the room temperature by means of the thermometer. Then envelop the thermometer damp rag or napkin and in ten minutes measure temperature again. Look at the table and on crossing of indicators of temperatures of dry and damp thermometers find relative humidity.

4. Can tell condition of houseplants about air humidity. If leaves of plants even at the correct watering are wrinkled and twisted, their tips become brown, buds do not reveal and fall down, then air in the apartment too dry. Also at low humidity the young leaves badly develop, and wreckers strike plants more often.
