Flower midges (stsiarida) usually appear on houseplants as a result of excessive watering. Usually the peak of activity of these small insects comes in the winter when the soil in flowerpots does not manage to dry up. To save favourite plants from uninvited guests, it is possible to take advice of experienced flower growers.

Adult stsiarida do not constitute danger to houseplants, but here their larvae can cause to the root system of flowers irreparable damage. If you have noticed that in flowerpot there are a lot of larvae and they can be seen with the naked eye, best of all replace plant in new pot. Before landing, disinfect the soil to which you will plant flower and process it special means which can be got in flower shops.

That midges did not attack your plants, it is necessary to loosen periodically the soil in flowerpots and not to allow its "gulf". Systematically you examine plants. If you have revealed sick leaves, surely remove them.

You should not conduct experiments with water for watering of plants. "Coffee" or "tea" water is desired delicacy for flower midges and their larvae. 

Water plant only in process of drying of top layer. For watering it is better to use the softened water. To make water of softer, it can be defended or boiled.

One of the most effective and at the same time economic ways of fight against flower midge consists in use of match sulfur. Take 4 matches and thrust them to the earth heads down. Pour into pot a little water. In process of disappearance of sulfur from matches replace them with new. Usually four sessions of such therapy that midges have left the made habitable places are enough.

Water the plants struck with stsiarida, solution of potassium permanganate of weak concentration. Be careful. If you add too much potassium permanganate, you can simply burn flowers. Also for this purpose it is possible to use weak solution of laundry soap.

One more way of fight against midges means use of garlic. Crush three garlic heads and fill in them with boiled water liter. Infuse liquid about four hours then water plant and process solution its leaves. It is also possible to cut several garlic gloves lengthways and to spread out pieces in pots with flowers. These ways are rather effective, however will not suit those who do not accept presence of garlic smell in the house.
