Ants are frequent guests on seasonal dachas and strongly bother gardeners. If not to regulate the number of ants within garden economy, then they are capable to do serious harm to fruit crops. Simple and available national methods have proved the efficiency in fight against the undesirable neighbourhood long ago.
Before getting rid of ants, it is worth estimating undoubted advantage of these insects for kitchen garden. Where they have located, there are no mice and other rodents. Besides, ants destroy numerous wreckers of garden and improve structure of the soil.
Harm of ants on the seasonal dacha
However harm which ants are capable to cause more advantage is incommensurable. Berry-pickers and root crops, flowers and trees can strongly suffer from gluttonous insects.
Ants often lodge in warm hotbeds and beds, damaging underground and elevated parts of plants. They can be found easily in little minks or big dome-shaped slots. The underpasses laid by ants deprive of plant of moisture and power supply, lead of them to death. Lack of shoots, the eaten-around fruits, the dried-up ovaries, the spoiled buds of flowers - such is result of activity of ant individuals on the seasonal dacha.
Not smaller harm to garden economy is done by plant louses who are the best friends of ants. Sweet allocations of plant louses - favourite delicacy of ants therefore they all the year round carefully protect the supporters: for the winter carry away the self-check of plant louses to the slots, and in the spring again bring them on plants. Therefore, it is necessary to fight not only against ants, but also with plant louse first of all. If colonies of insects begin to win the territory of the garden site, it is necessary to take measures urgently.
Safe methods of fight against ants
There are many ways of fight against ants on kitchen garden, the simplest of which are toxic chemicals. For extermination of insects strong insecticides which have soil activity are used. However, not all gardeners are ready to such extreme measures, many of them adopt the checked national methods.
- To expel ants from the site, it is necessary to dig over bed with rustic tobacco, and around hotbeds, beds and trunks of trees where ants were proved, annularly to fill ashes. After that to spill ""circles"" from above salt water.
- Successfully apply fresh and dry yeast to destruction of ants. They are slightly diluted with water and do dense gruel to which add a little honey. Mix is displayed about ant hill and in other places of congestion of insects.
- In bed where the ant hill is found, place bottle with the sweet syrup poured in it. After the bottle is filled with ants, it is taken and destroy insects.
- The found ant hill is dug out and it is abundant spill abrupt boiled water.
- Mix of icing sugar and soda with which strew dwellings of insects is pernicious for ants.
- Ants do not take out pungent smells therefore any odorous herbs and products with strong smell can forever frighten off insects. For this purpose it is good to use carbolic acid, vinegar, ammonia solution, birch tar, cinnamon, garlic, anise, celery, mint.
- Ant colonies will quickly leave the familiar spot if to remove the earth from above of ant hill and to strew with mustard powder. On each bed to strew mustard powder with path, in the preventive purposes. It is necessary to make it in dry weather, and in two weeks to repeat the procedure.
