Generous blossoming
The gladiolus comes from family of iris. Depending on size the types are divided into melkotsvetkovy, average and large-flowered and giants. Besides, gladioluses range on blossoming terms. They are early and late. Thanks to these opportunities, at the attentive choice of the place of landing and thorough leaving it is possible to enjoy these delightful flowers since summer to the frosts.
Gladioluses are very photophilous. Well and magnificently they will blossom only on the solar place. The second indispensable condition – fertile soil.
On wintering in the earth as it is not recommended to leave other bulbous, garden grades of gladioluses. Annually in April the bulbs land to the open ground, and in October, after blossom fading, dug out and go to storage. Temperature below -5 °C are dangerous to bulbs and can lead to their death.
That gladioluses generously blossomed, on one place no more than three years are recommended to grow up them. Then it is necessary to find for them the new solar town with fertile soil.
Comfortable landing
That gladioluses felt comfortable, the bed needs to be prepared for landing in advance. In the fall the earth is dug over on depth of 50 cm, weeds are removed, fertilizers – compost, manure or peat are introduced. The layer of fertilizers is closed up by the soil and, without mixing, is left till spring. With arrival of spring snow which has remained on bed is shoveled away, the surface of bed is covered with polyethylene film that the earth has thawed and has got warm. It is possible to start landing of bulbs in the middle of April. Before landing of bulb it is necessary to disinfect 20-30 in carbophos solution (2 g on water liter) or potassium permanganate. Then they are washed with water and land. That gladioluses blossomed on bed continuously during the whole summer and fall, it is necessary to plant them parts, with break in two weeks. To make landing in dry weather, at temperature of soil not below +12 °C. Depth of holes – 10-15 cm. The distance depends on grade. Big bulbs put up to 40 cm between them, small – 10 cm.
Careful leaving
Regular watering, loosening of the earth, weeding of weeds and mulching of the soil humus is necessary for gladioluses. That plants better and longer blossomed, they can be fed up phosphorus. In October when bulbs are dug out, them it is necessary to dry, cut greens on 1.5 cm from bulb, to process fundazoly and to store in cardboard boxes, in the dark at temperature of +5 °C.
