How to prepare wooden surface for painting

The wooden surface before coloring needs to be prepared: to check for availability of the knots acting nails, roughnesses, residues of paints and varnishes. All defects have to be eliminated. To receive beautiful covering, the surface has to be plain and smooth.

Knots and nails

The acting knots on surface of product are removed by means of semicircular chisel on depth of 2-3 mm, then are processed by drying oil and covered with putty. It is possible to replace the acting knots, wood traffic jams of similar breed, having fixed them by joiner's glue. Important that grain direction of surface and stopper coincided. Wooden nails chuck in several millimeters inside.

Pitches and greasy spots

Spots of pitch cut down and process the same as knots. Greasy spots process 5% solution of soda ash. Rust is removed by 10% with solution of copper vitriol or 3% solution of hydrochloric acid. If greasy spots or rust they are not washed away it is possible to paint over white enamel paint.

Oil stains and residues of paint

Similar defects delete in the chemical way, by means of processing with acetone, or other means for removal of paints. When coloring surface nitropaint the old oil paint should be deleted completely, otherwise the nitropaint applied on the surface which is earlier painted by oil paint will be blown up and will turn. It is possible to peel the paint by means of heating by its professional hair dryer, and the blown-up paint should be peeled stopping knife.

Removal of mold

In the presence of mold the surface should be washed with hypochlorite solution for removal of mold, according to the instruction of the producer. After processing the surface is rinsed by clear water.

Washing and grinding

For cleaning of surface from fats, spots and various pollution the surface needs to be washed out brush, sponge or rag, to rinse clear water and to leave before full drying. Grinding is carried out after full drying of surface, abrasive paper before destruction of roughness and achievement of dullness of surface. The remained defective places, are leveled by means of putty for tree. It is not necessary to process putty all surfaces to keep its fibrous structure.

Cleaning of surface and primer

Upon termination of grinding the surface is cleaned for painting from dust and small mechanical particles with brush or scraper. Priming mix is applied on surface with brush or soft brush, carefully shading along wood fibers.

Grinding

After drying of priming mix it is necessary to pass on the dried layer fine-grained abrasive paper. The prepared surface has to be plain, smooth, without scratches.
