How to use pine sawdust as fertilizers

In gardening and truck farming pine sawdust has wide range of application: they are added to compost, used as the mulching structure or just strew with them paths. Use of sawdust as fertilizer can improve characteristics of the soil considerably.

Basic reason of popularity of sawdust as fertilizers - their relative low cost, especially in comparison with expensive chemicals or manure. There are several main methods of application of sawdust in crop production as means for improvement of structure and fertility of the soil.

Sawdust as the mulching material

Addition of sawdust to the soil helps to make it more friable thanks to what its hygroscopicity and ability to pass moisture improves and also oxygen content in fertile layer increases. The most effective addition of sawdust to the soil during the autumn period is considered. Sawdust needs to be scattered thin uniform layer just before digging up of kitchen garden. Also sawdust uses for the device of the mulching layer in raspberry brake or on paths through passage from where they are evenly carried on the soil over time.

Sawdust for "soft" fertilizer

Soil fertilizer in the course of cultivation of garden cultures is often connected with risk to damage the root system of plants. To avoid the increased concentration of nitrogen-containing fertilizers, they can be extended by means of sawdust. When entering into the soil of urea, it is parted with water in the ratio 1:12 and in the received solution soak sawdust within one week. Chemical fertilizers extend in precisely the same way. Before fertilizer bird's dung it needs to be soaked water and to mix with sawdust before formation of homogeneous dense mass.

Sawdust with fertilizer spreads ring around the plant stalk basis. In the course of periodic watering, sawdust will gradually give nutrients to the soil that also promotes economy of fertilizers and decrease in frequency of feed of garden cultures by them.

Use of sawdust in combination with compost

Sawdust can be used as addition to humus. Fresh sawdust should not be brought in compost pit, it is much better to allow them to be weather-beaten and become impregnated with moisture. For this purpose sawdust packs into burlap and leaves under the open sky for long time. The reserve of sawdust in bags can lie several years, from it their useful properties will not be lowered. Bring sawdust in compost pit usually in the fall, after full or its partial cleaning. Pine sawdust in itself does not contain large amount of nutrients, but as a part of humus they well drain top soil and do composition of fertilizer to more uniform.
