In 2010 in the jungle of Guatemala the group of researchers found a pyramid, its walls decorated the masks painted in typical mayansky style. Archeologists assumed that it is the temple of the Night or Dark Sun built nearly 1600 years ago. As well as many other constructions, the temple had cult and religious character. He personified communication between the governor buried in it and the Supreme deity to which the tribe worshipped.
At the beginning of excavation the archeologists found human remains on which identified approximate years of their life. They assumed that on proximity there has to be a temple tomb of one of the first governors of the tribe of the Maya which name is lost in centuries. Their search was crowned with success. A row found a 13-meter pyramid which scientists christened "the Pyramid of the Devil". It became clear a bit later that it is the temple of the Night Sun, however its former name was fixed in media.
According to scientists, the temple was built during the period between 350th and 400th AD, i.e. in the period of government of one of the first leaders of the legendary tribe. At top of the temple the remains of the palace which is once belonging to the Maya governors were found. All complex of the Pyramid of the Devil makes an amazing impression. His facade is decorated with huge magnificent masks, the ancient deity represented in all details is molded and painted so that within one day its look, or perception of its appearance, can cardinally change.
This true piece of art, architectural masterpiece of ancient architects – one of the richest structures of Mesoamerica. Magnificent scenery of external finishing of all complex accept shape sharks, a snake, and at sunset – a jaguar. It is remarkable that subsequently the jaguar became at descendants of the tribe a sacred animal. Now archeologists cleared away only about 30% of the temple complex. But even these finds allowed researchers to draw a number of considerable conclusions on culture, religion and life of the early period of existence of the tribe. In particular, the assumptions of rituals and ceremonies, of gifts and sacrifices to gods were made. Besides, some scientists made the assumption that besides cult and religious motives, builders of a pyramidal complex pursued also the socio-political aims. I.e. the complex was under construction not only for worship of the Supreme deity, but also as demonstration of force and power before the neighboring tribes, in particular, for psychological impact on residents of Tikal located near Mexico City. Like Troy, the pyramid of the Devil long time was a legend, till 2010 the scientists-archeologists had only written evidence of its existence. Now, thanks to enormous work and patience, the whole world knows that the Pyramid of the Devil really existed, but, unfortunately, in total about hundred years used the temple not too long. In the 5th century AD the complex was thrown, and its gradual destruction from this point began time.
