How to find concentration

How to find concentration

Concentration is called the relation of number of particles of a component of a system (mixes, solution, or alloy), its quantities (molar concentration) or the masses (mass concentration) to system volume.

It is required to you

  • For definition of substance in solution it is the simplest to use titration. For this purpose are necessary for us: studied solution, burette, flask, working solution of the known concentration and indicator.

Instruction

1. As the indicator, acid-base indicators, for example, phenolphthalein most often act.

2. The gulf in the burette working solution to a zero mark, it is necessary to add on a drop it to the studied solution with the indicator dissolved in it. As soon as reaction happened, the studied solution changes color.

3. Now, by simple calculations, we can learn concentration of the studied substance in solution.

4. For example, we had 50 ml. NaOH solution of unknown concentration. On titration of this solution at us 10 ml left. HCl with concentration of 0.01 mol/l. We find concentration of unknown solution as follows: 0.01 (10/50) = 0.002 mol/l.
