How to put a square root

The mathematical symbol designating operation of extraction of a root is not among the first 128 signs of quoted tables which without problems can be entered and displayed by any program for work with texts. Therefore the way of an insert in the text of this symbol depends on opportunities of the used program. Besides, it is necessary to consider also possibilities of that program by means of which the created text will be looked through subsequently.

Instruction

1. Use substitute of the sign of a square root if the created document is stored in files with the txt expansion. The format of such files does not provide a possibility of work with symbols of that part of quoted tables in which also the code of the sign of a root is placed. Rather widespread substitute of this symbol is the designation sqrt. For example, to write down mathematical operation of extraction of a root from number 64, it is necessary to write sqrt 64 or sqrt (64). sqrt is reduction from the English square root (square root).

2. Use function of an insert of symbols if the program which has to display the typed text is capable to reproduce the sign of a root. For example, when using the Microsoft Word 2007 word-processor for addition of this sign in the text it is necessary to go to the Insert tab and to click on the Symbol button placed in group of the Symbols teams. If in the opened list there is no necessary sign, then click the lower point - "Other Symbols".

3. Open a drop-down list "Set" and click point "mathematical operators" not to scroll the table of symbols to the necessary sign "manually". Choose a symbol of a square root and press the button to insert, and then close this window.

4. Use manual entry of the code as an alternative to the Symbol button. To this symbol there corresponds code 221A (a letter - Latin). Having taken him, press a combination of the keys ALT + X, and the text editor will replace these four signs with one symbol of a square root.

5. Insert the sequence of symbols & radic into the source code; if the program which will display the typed text can reproduce tags of the NTML language. This has to look in the browser "a symbolical primitive" of the HTML language so: √.
