The number which at its construction in the degree equal to root degree, will give the value specified under the sign of a root has to be result of performance of operation of extraction of a root. This value is called "radicand" and can be set by a formula, the whole or fractional number. Extraction of a root from fractional number has some rules intended for simplification of this operation.
Instruction
1. If the radicand is presented in the form of decimal fraction, and the common fraction should receive result in a format, then begin with transformation of a format. For example, for extraction of a cubic root from number 0.125 this operation will look so: 0.125 = 125/1000 = 1/8.
2. If the radicand represents a common fraction, then recognize that the root from it can be presented how the relation of a root of the same degree from numerator to the same root from a denominator. For example, operation of extraction of a square root from fraction 4/9 can be written down so: √ (4/9) = √4/√ 9 = 2/3.
3. If the numerator and a denominator of a radicand in its initial look does not allow to receive value, convenient for further calculations, then try to lead them to the necessary look. Pick up such general multiplier that from both or at least from one of them it was possible to receive at extraction of a root integer value. For example, for calculation of a cubic root from fraction 1/8 it will be more convenient to increase previously its numerator and a denominator by 8 times:³ √ (1/8) =³ √ (1*8/8*8) =³ √ (8/64) =³ √ 8³ √ 64 = 2/4.
4. The common fraction received as a result of this mathematical operation should be reduced if it is obviously possible. For example, the model of calculation from the last step will remain unfinished until you divide numerator and a denominator of result into the two:³ √ (1/8) =³ √ (1*8/8*8) =³ √ (8/64) =³ √ 8³ √ 64 = 2/4 = 1/2.
5. If to you only the result of operation of extraction of a root from fraction is important, and the format of the received number and the course of calculations do not matter, then use any calculator.
