How canyons are formed?
Canyons represent deep beds of the shoaled rivers at the edges of which steep rocks rise. Some canyons have branches from the main course. The river, and the river with very rapid current is necessary for emergence of a canyon not just. The rapid current of the river is capable to bear in itself more fragments and stones. The more stones and various fragments are rolled on a river bed, the layer of radical breed of the bed of the river is removed quicker. The mountain river as an emery paper, grinds off strong breed of the course. Emergence of a canyon is also promoted by a raising of tectonic plates. At their inclination, the watercourse accelerates, the erosion of breed to become quicker and the course becomes less twisting. The main canyons are located in droughty areas. In deserts not enough precipitation drops out, and the river washes away the course much quicker, keeping at the same time vertical coast.
The largest canyon in the world
The largest canyon in the world is called Grand Canyon. It is located on the Colorado River which flows in the State of Arizona in the United States of America. The huge gap in steep rocks stretches almost for 400 kilometers. Depth of Grand Canyon reaches one and a half kilometers. Grand Canyon began to appear more than 10 million years ago. There was a raising of tectonic plates in this region that led to acceleration of a watercourse and bigger deepening of its course. Walls of a canyon were exposed to a wind erosion and got fancy outlines. In the 20th century on the Colorado River the dam was constructed to weaken a watercourse and to slow down a canyon erosion. But Grand Canyon continues to increase in sizes also today.
