As Earth looks from the Moon

As Earth looks from the Moon

From the Moon Earth looks as rather small size the blue bright sphere. It is visible only from one, light side of the Moon. At the same time Earth always is in one point of a lunar firmament.

Instruction

1. From the Moon Earth seems in 3.7 times more in the diameter, than observed from Earth moon. Diameter of Earth is 12742 km, and diameter of the Moon - 3474 km. Those to whom has the luck to visit the Moon or in its orbit, note that Earth seems much more brightly than the Moon. Though the full Moon can seem very bright, its surface represents the dust of grayish color low-reflecting light. Earth has white clouds, tops of mountains covered with ice, oceans which reflect sunlight much better, than gray dust of the Moon.

2. Being under a certain corner concerning the Sun, oceans and the seas of Earth are capable to reflect sunlight like a mirror. The astronaut Douglas Vikok, having appeared on the International Space Station, made the picture of the Mediterranean Sea near the island of Crete. In this picture it is well visible how the Sun is reflected from a water surface.

3. Both Earth, and the Moon do not shine but only reflect sunlight. The albedo is a reflective ability and coefficient of diffusion reflection. The average of albedo of Earth makes 0.367, that is its surface reflects 37.6% of the sunlight getting for it. Albedo of the Moon - 0, 12. The earth shines three times more brightly than the Moon. Light reflected by it on brightness is close to day, but is a little more dim. Therefore Earth looks more colourful, large and bright, than the Moon.

4. Higher and higher told concerns Earth seen in its full size. But, as well as the Moon, Earth passes through a number of phases. Within a month from the Moon it is possible to observe Earth in its full size decreasing, growing, arising. Phases of the Moon and a phase of Earth are inversely proportional. When from the Moon the thin horn of Earth, on Earth a full moon is observed. When the new lunar moon above the ground hangs, over the Moon Earth appears in a full look.

5. In 1968 the astronaut Bill Anders photographed Earth from space station Apollo 8 on its decreasing phase. The ship flew around the Moon on the eve of New year 1968, without landing. This picture became the proof of existence of phases of Earth.

6. The moon, rotating around Earth, it is always turned to the blue planet by one party. It is gravitational effect which is called tidal a lock. As a result the Moon rotates for the same time round its pivot-center, as around a terrestrial orbit.

7. Therefore, being on the Moon, depending on the location, the observer would see rising of Earth in the same part of a firmament all the time. Being on a shady side of the Moon, he would never see him. Being in the middle of the light party, he would see Earth directly over the head. In any place of the light side of the Moon Earth will seem motionless. At the same time it will be always visible.

8. It is possible, in the future, when colonization of the Moon is popular, observation of Earth will become one of types of pastime of "lunar" people of Earth.
