The sensor the lambda probe represents the device according to the content of the free oxygen which remained in exhaust gases. Its indications allow a control system to support an optimum ratio between air and gasoline in combustion chambers. There is a number of symptoms which indicate the need of check a lambda probe regarding malfunction.

Instruction

1. Define whether your sensor a lambda probe needs check. Can demonstrate to malfunction: uneven operation of the engine, breakthroughs and pulling; discrepancy of standards of toxicity; deterioration in fuel profitability; premature failure of the catalyst. If there is at least one of symptoms, then begin check of the device.

2. Read the instruction of the producer of the sensor a lambda probe. In it key parameters of the device have to be specified. Check lack of external mechanical damages, work of a system of injection, tension of onboard network, integrity of electrical circuits and advancing of ignition. Compare the established indicators to the data specified in the instruction.

3. Disconnect the sensor a lambda probe from a block and connect to the digital voltmeter. Start the engine and increase its turns up to 2500 rpm. Use the device for enrichment of gas mixture for artificial increase in content of gasoline to lower engine speed to 200 rpm.

4. If your car is equipped with electronic injection, then can just get for a while a vacuum tube which is in the fuel pressure regulator. If at this moment of the shooter of the voltmeter the lambda probe moves on voltage of 0.9 V, then the sensor it is serviceable. If the voltmeter practically does not react or its value does not exceed 0.8 V, then it testifies to malfunction of the device.

5. Take the vacuum call and simulate an air suction to carry out the poor mix test. If indications of the voltmeter sharply fell up to 0.2 V and below, then the sensor works correctly, otherwise the device needs to be replaced.

6. Test dynamic operating modes of the sensor a lambda probe. For this purpose it is necessary to connect the device to the socket of a system of injection and to install parallel to it the voltmeter. Bring unit turns to 1500 rpm. In it time of the indication of the voltmeter have to be around 0.5 V. Otherwise the sensor is faulty.
