How to find barrel volume

How to find barrel volume

It is difficult for modern person to understand why ancient barrels had such "big-bellied" form. Business here not in a delicacy of ancient designers. In principle, also truncated conical shape tanks for this purpose would approach – and it is easier to collect and it is easy to find the volume of such barrel. However it is unlikely such barrel it would be succeeded to leave far …

It is required to you

  • - ruler;
  • - calculator;
  • - cord.

Instruction

1. Before calculating barrel volume, attentively examine it. Modern barrels, as a rule, are made in the industrial way. Therefore they have the standard volume which for certain somewhere is specified. Barrel capacity (or its contents) can also be found in accompanying documents (consignment notes, invoices, etc.).

2. In certain cases it is simpler to determine volume experimentally. For this purpose take a bucket of the known capacity and just fill a barrel with water, having counted the number of buckets. If some part of water from the last bucket does not go in in a barrel, measure the volume of "excess" water by a one-liter jar and subtract from the total amount received at measurement by buckets.

3. The majority of modern metal and plastic barrels have the cylindrical form. To find the volume of such barrel, measure its height and diameter. Try to measure internal diameter of a barrel if you are interested in barrel capacity, but not that, how many the place barrelof will borrow in a cellar. Then, increase barrel height (in meters) by diameter square (in meters), then increase by number "пи" (approximately, 3.14) and divide into 4. If there is a lot of barrels, in advance divide "пи" into 4 and multiply the received coefficient by height and a square of diameter. In the form of a formula this rule will look as follows: Vtsb = π/4 * D² * Neelie Vtsb ≈ 0.785 * D² * H, where: Vtsb is the volume of a cylindrical barrel, D – the internal diameter of a bottom/cover of a barrel.π – number "пи", approximately equal 3.14.

4. For measurement of diameter of a barrel take a cord and record one of its ends on the edge of a barrel. Then find the most remote point at the opposite edge of a barrel and note it on a cord (for example, tie a small knot). Measure cord length by means of a roulette or a ruler. Write down result in meters, in the form of decimal fraction. At measurement of height of a barrel of problems should not arise. However consider that some barrels have the "raised" bottom therefore it is necessary to measure internal height of a barrel.

5. If on a cover of a barrel its center (for example, in the center there is an opening for discharge), then instead of diameter measure barrel radius is somehow specified. The formula for calculation of volume of a barrel in this case will be similar: Vtsb = π * R² * H, where: R – barrel bottom/cover radius,

6. If neither diameter, nor radius of a barrel can be measured (for example, barrels stand to several "floors"), then define its "grasp". For this purpose take a cord and wind it around a barrel. As length of a circle is calculated on a formula: L = π * D, where: L – the grasp (circle length) of a barrel, diameter of a barrel will equal to length of the circle divided on π:D = by L/π.Otsyuda the simple formula turns out: Vtsb = L²/4π * Neelie Vtsb = L²/12.566 * H,

7. To find the volume of the real wooden barrel, use a practical formula which is applied by most of wine makers: Vkb = 3.2 * r * R * H, where: Vkb – volume classical bochkir – the radius of a bottom/cover of a barrel, R – the radius of the widest part (middle) of a barrel.

8. As to measure the radius of a wide part of a barrel it is quite problematic, it is better to use a formula: Vkb = 0.8 * d * D * N.gde: d – diameter of a bottom/cover of a barrel, D – diameter of the widest part (middle) of a barrel.
