The module of number n is quantity of single pieces from the beginning of coordinates to n point. And it is not important in what party this distance – to the right or to the left from zero will be counted.

1. It is also accepted to call the module of number an absolute value of this number. It is designated by the short vertical lines drawn at the left and to the right of number. For example, the module of number 15 registers as follows: |15|.

2. Remember that the module can be only positive number or zero. The module of positive number is equal to the number. The module of zero is equal to zero. That is for any number n which is more or equally to zero the following formula |n| = n. For example, |15| = 15 will be fair, that is the module of number 15 is equal to 15.

3. The same number, but with the opposite sign will be the module of a negative number. That is for any number n which is less than zero the formula |n| = - n. For example will be fair, |-28| = 28. The module of number-28 is equal to the 28.

4. It is possible to find modules not only for whole, but also for fractional numbers. And the same rules work for fractional numbers. For example, |0.25| = 25, that is the module of number 0.25 will be equal to 0.25. And |-¾| = ¾, that is the number module-¾ will be equal ¾.

5. During the work with modules it is useful to know that modules of opposite numbers are always equal each other, that is |n| = |-n |. It is the main property of modules. For example, |10| = |-10|. The module of number 10 is equal to 10, just as number-10 module. Besides, |a-b| = |b-a| as distance from a point to a point b and distance from b to an are equal each other. For example, | 25 - 5 | = | 5 - 25 |, that is |20| = | - 20 |.
