Radioactive radiation is not perceived by sense organs of the person even at the density of energy posing a threat of life. Measuring devices - dosimeters, radiometers and signaling devices of radioactivity will help to find dangerous beams.
Instruction
1. Dosimeters sometimes mistakenly call also any other devices for measurement of power of ionizing radiation. Actually this name is carried by the devices of strictly certain design capable to measure only the saved-up dose, but not instant intensity of a stream of particles. They represent the cylinders of the size of the pen having on the one hand contacts for connection to the charging set, and with another - an eyepiece. To charge the dosimeter, remove from it a cap, insert into the charging set and press the charge button. Then, having released it, pull out the device from a nest then again put on him a cap. You carry the dosimeter on a collar, like the pen. To learn the saved-up dose, again install the device in the charging set, but instead of the button of a charge press the illumination button. Look in an eyepiece and read indications. Having written down them, dump the device on zero, having loaded repeatedly. The saved-up dose is displayed in milliroentgens (do not confuse them with microx-rays). Having divided it into a number of hours during which you carried the dosimeter, it is possible to find out the average level of radiation expressed in milliroentgens an hour.
2. The signaling device of radioactivity has neither school, nor digital indicators. Having included it, count the number of flashes of a light-emitting diode or neon bulb or clicks in a minute. On the formula specified in the instruction to the device count these data in microx-rays in an hour.
3. The most convenient devices are radiometers. For use of such device just include it and wait about a minute. After that read indications of the indicator. Consider that this device is inertial: after sharp change of level of radiation it will be reflected in indications not at once. However, almost all radiometers have the built-in signaling devices. You will notice change of frequency of light or sound impulses at once. Some modern radiometers display radiation level in microsieverts an hour. To transfer them to habitual microx-rays in an hour, increase result of measurement by 100.
