How to sort a noun as a part of speech

Analysis of a noun as parts of speech – more precisely, morphological analysis – is carried out on in advance defined simple scheme. It can be remembered or unpacked and issued in the form of an instruction.

Instruction

1. To begin analysis, write out the necessary noun from the text. At the same time do not change number and a case in which there is this word. For example, "cold". If the noun is used with a pretext, then this pretext should be written out too, having put it before a noun and having taken in parentheses. For example, "(c) wood". Here specify belonging to a certain part of speech (noun), the general grammatical meaning (subject) and a question which this word answers. Record can be issued as follows: Cold - sushch. (than?), designates a subject.

2. The first point of morphological analysis – definition of an initial form of a word. For nouns it is singular Nominative case (cold, the wood, the sailor). The exception is made by words which are not used in singular (jeans, scissors, points). For them plural Nominative case form will be initial.

3. The second point of analysis – determination of morphological features. At first define constant signs: a proper name or nominal, animated or inanimate, what sort and what inducement. For example, at the word "wood" the following constant signs: nominal, inanimate, a masculine gender (it is possible to write down in a short form – masculine), the II inducement.

4. The following part of the second point – determination of changeable signs. At nouns this number and a case. For example, the word "(c) the wood" is used in the form of a prepositional case (Items) of singular (singular). However at nouns which do not change on numbers (oil, trousers, etc.) the number should be referred to constant signs.

5. The third point – definition of a syntactic role of a word in the offer. Usually the noun is a subject, addition or a circumstance. For example, the noun from the offer "Blew softly cold" acts as addition.
